Keterangan:
- To be untuk kalimat simple past tense adalah ‘Was or were’ yang bisa dimaknai ada atau adalah atau bisa juga tidak diartikan.
- Untuk subjek You, we, they, gunakan were.
- Untuk subjek I, She, he, it gunakan was.
- Complement adalah pelengkap, seperti Student, teacher, book, money, water, dan lain sebagainya.
